CHAKRA SERIES

A Cycle of presence

15 November 2025 - 15 January 2026

The Chakra Series traces the subtle architecture of the human energy body and its connection to both Earth and the Cosmos.

Each work unfolds through layers of pigment and their colour resonance, through threads and the quiet persistence of touch in hand stitched gestures: processes and marks that invite a sustained encounter.

The paintings call to be felt as much as seen, inviting to pause long enough for perception to deepen into an enchanting recognition.

The nine works presented here – reflecting the energetic centres found within and around the human body, from the grounded Earth Chakra to the transcendent Cosmic Soul Star Chakra map a journey both intimate and universal.

The series moves from belonging and survival to pleasure, identity, will, compassion, expression, intuition, and awareness of presence. In this ascent, one is led to journey through the field of becoming, a living bridge between earth and ether, material and unseen.

Yet the studio was only the first sequence of material experiencing for the paintings, before their arrival in the gallery space.

A second sequence involved taking each piece into natural landscapes of soil, sunlight, and wind.
There, the canvases were photographed as if alive, their surfaces animated by the elements.

The resulting large scale photographs accompany the original works here. Each image records these exchanges: art and landscape as co experiencers, momentarily unified in breath and light. The outdoor environments experienced by the works, and vice versa, grounding the energetic system of the paintings within the planetary one.

In parallel, and as a third sequence, a small empirical somatic study was undertaken: two unfamiliar viewers were exposed, separately, to each painting, one by one, for a few minutes at a time, their energetic responses captured through a Biowell device.

This study sequence adds another layer of inquiry: how does art, attuned to energy and intention, register within the living field of an onlooker?

The results, quiet records of observation, open the register to further reflection and intentional interaction.

Together, these works and their photographic portraits in outdoor landscapes and natural environments, form a meditation on presence, belonging, and the interdependence of all living systems. They offer a gentle resistance to the accelerated gaze that defines contemporary life, asking instead for attunement.

To stand before them is to be reminded that seeing can be an act of grounding, a devotion to human ‘being’, to the pulse of our cosmic belonging.

Thus, the Chakra Series arrives here not as a fixed object rather a culmination: its journey from pigment to earth to gallery a complete cycle of making, witnessing, and release. Soon these works will disperse into private spaces, continuing their quiet work of resonance. What remains is the echo, a call to reconnect with the rhythms of the natural world, the intelligence of the body and the stillness that underlies all becoming.

Born in 1971, Stephanie Jeanne Marie is a French visual artist whose work privileges pigment, thread, ink, charcoal, and the tactile presence of loose canvas and paper. Her practice follows a rhythm shaped by purpose and attention.

Raised in Paris, surrounded by two collector aunts and their trove of antiquities, textiles, and precious objects, she developed an early fascination with materials that carry time within them. This sensibility grew through her own creative beginnings in painting, sculpture, and papier mâché, and deepened during travels across Asia, where she first encountered the elemental landscapes that continue to inform her work.

Her career has unfolded across design, craft, and caregiving, from heading sustainable furniture and textile design projects in the Himalayas and Southeast Asia to raising three children. These experiences form part of a continuum, enriching her understanding of care, labour, and time as creative forces.

Today, her materially rich works reflect a sustained dialogue between material, time, and perception, unfolding at the pace of presence. She is most often found in the mountains or woodlands of Europe and Asia, where she dwells and draws from the elemental rhythms of her surroundings.
